Edition 6 (August 2006)

Amidst all the challenges facing the profession nowadays, it’s great to read a really upbeat account of the achievements of a procurement director and her team in helping drive a major global project. Meryl Bushell unashamedly blows the trumpet for herself and her procurement colleagues in our cover feature on the 21CN project at BT. And why not? Procurement professionals often ask how they can gain more recognition – now Bushell and company have shown how it can be done. Their astute approach to colleagues within the wider organisation demonstrates that procurement is, as is often said, really a relationships business. It is clear from the BT story that being able to deal effectively with people is what really counts.

There are undoubtedly many more equally impressive projects going on all the time. We should hear about more of them. This way, procurement can progress further towards full recognition in the wider business world.
